Not so much breaking news so much as an observation: The current President of the EU, who is making headlines today for calling the US economic recovery plans a "road to hell," lost his own government last week to a vote of no confidence.

Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek's Czech government collapsed last week when the lower house of parliament voted no confidence in him. This was the fifth such attempt made by lawmakers, and succeeded largely because members of his own center-right party joined in the vote.

Update: And now, he denies having said it. Or, rather, is attempting to re-frame it. Czech government spokesmen are saying that Topolanek said that boosts in European spending would be the "road to hell." The US, on the other hand, can spend whatever it wants.
