The gap between Chinese boys and girls is worse than ever, and has reached a disparity of 32 million among people under the age of 20.

Quick recap of the last 30 years, in case anyone missed them: After the nation imposed a strict one-child limit to control population growth in the 70s, many began to abort female fetuses. When infanticide became a problem in some regions, the government began allowing two children in some regions, if the firstborn was female.

The resulting gender gap now sees the nation with 19 percent more boys than girls. Experts fear that this could lead to increased crime, economic problems and social upheaval.

China has set a goal of reducing the gap to a natural level by 2010. Unfortunately, things only seem to be getting worse: the widest disparity was found among children between the ages of one and four.
