A mutant strain of avian/swine flu linked to deaths in Mexico has moved to the United States, where eight people in California and Texas have become infected. American media is already jumping into panic mode, with ABC claiming a debate about possible pandemic is raging among experts and Drudge Report running headlines like:

"CDC says too late to contain..."

And (in red, no less):

"OUTBREAK: NO PLAN TO CLOSE BORDERS."

Mexico seems to be taking a more sensible approach to the disease, where schools and museums in and around Mexico City have been closed to contain the virus. Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova has called the outbreak "controllable" at this time. There have been nearly 1,000 suspected cases of the disease in the nation, where it has caused 16 confirmed deaths and is suspected to have been linked to as many as 45 more.
