In spite of a recent wave of violence that has left over 1,000 dead in three months, Iraqi officials have reaffirmed that they want US troops out of major cities by June 30th.

"These dates cannot be extended," a spokesman for the government said in a press release, "and this is consistent with the transfer and handover of responsibility to Iraqi security forces."

Some Kurdish politicians disagree. "US forces should stay in Mosul," Saadi Ahmed Pera said in a statement Monday, "until all the pending problems among political groups in the city are solved." However, the newly-elected political leadership in Mosul disagrees.
